We loved this place. We stayed across the Vatican museum ... and we stumbled upon this place because Luigi asked if we were hungry in the middle of a side street. We were so we decided to give it a try since he gave us a coupon, 11 Euros for pizza or pasta, beer/wine/water and dessert, could not pass up the deal. We were expecting much but it was as delicious. Since we had the coupon, seating is for inside instead of the outdoor seating area, which is fine by us. We ate here twice. The gnocchi was fresh, we had frozen ones in a different place. The pasta was cooked al dented style. I had tiramisu both evenings and they whipped mascarpone was consistent but the lady finger at the bottom was not, one night had a little piece but the second night my bottom bowl was filled with it.
I would recommend this place. The servings were pretty decent as well. Budget friendly, relaxed ambience and friendly staff. -

We had lunch today at Trattoria after our visit to Vatican.
We had pizza and gnocchi and bresaola . The pizza was just OK , the gnocchi and bresaola were OK a bit deceiving cause it is so hard to miss a bresaola .
The three stars are for the outside seating and our server . -

We were here two years ago and it was pretty good, so we came back.
Several things:
My gnocci was made from frozen and far too chewy to be freshly made.
I make it a policy not to comment on particular wait staff as things happen, but I must say this:
Our waiter was one of the most foul smelling people I've ever encountered in my entire life. This wasn't skipping your daily shower; I don't think this was even skipping a weekly shower. This was the "haven't showed for a hot sweaty month" sort of stink. It was nauseating and I could literally close my eyes and track his movements through the room, especially since we were right next to the wait station.
It was truly revolting. Any establishment that tolerates a waiter this putrid smelling isn't one that should remain open. I will never go back. I'd award zero stars if possible. Don't go here. -

We were hailed by Luigi (who said he owned the restaurant with his brother) as we were walking down Via della Conciliazione. After spending the day at the Vatican museums and St Peter's, we were ready for a late lunch! He offered us a couple coupons that would allow us to get one of 4 or 5 different main dishes, a drink, and either a side or a dessert for 11 euro - a pretty good deal, in all honesty. Then he walked us the couple blocks to the restaurant (whether it was too make sure we didn't get lost or to keep us from wandering into another restaurant depends on your level of cynicism) and seated us before leaving to return to his post.
My wife had the Bucatini All'Amatriciana with a soda and a fruit salad. I had the Spaghetti Cacio E Pepe, which is made with pecorino cheese; a side salad; and a .2l Peroni beer (that's what came with the coupon).
The Bucatini was pretty good, but was a bit underwhelming with a lack of flavor. It was our first experience with bucatini, so that was kind of neat to see what was essentially a spaghetti noodle with a hollow core.
The spaghetti was quite good. I'm not sure why, but I was expecting a red sauce, even though I knew it was pecorino-based. Once I got over my initial surprise though, I really enjoyed the dish.
The meal was complemented with a complementary basket of bread. That combined with the geniality of the staff and the air conditioned restaurant made for a good experience. (It should also be noted that they have outdoor seating available, covered by large table umbrellas, if that's your bag.)
I topped the meal off with a double espresso and the entire meal for the two of us came to just under 25 euro, which I consider to be a good deal for a tourist-centric area like that!
All in all, this restaurant would be a safe bet if we were to return to the area, although I would probably be inclined to try other places just to experience variety. -

Luigi and the food here are both amazing. If you want authentic Italian food from a great and friendly person the search is over. We had to come back a second time before we leave!
